It was the dawn of a final era. The crescendo of sorts for Ford Trucks in the late 1970s. With the 80s fast approaching, Ford continuously improved their F-Series lineup; and 1978 was no different. In the final two years of the now classic "Dentside" generation of Ford pickup trucks, Ford squared off the front end and eliminated round headlights. We won't dare call it a Squarebody since the Chevy guys tend to be a bit sensitive. But Ford's transition to squared off headlights set a precedence for the likes of every horny, pre-pubescent teen boy in America with Ford's now iconic '78 Big Foot monster truck plastered on their walls sharing the new look.

In addition, Ford had gone upstream for their clients. Tried and true dependability now just wasn't enough. Enter the Ranger XLT Lariat package. It's everything found in Grandma's underwear drawer and more. "Luxurious" appointments included tufted bench seating, fully color-keyed carpeted floors and kick panels, padded interior door panels, and button-tufted extra-insulated headliners. Trucks ordered with top of the line, creme of the crop, Varsity team status Ranger XLT Lariat trim also received special badging and Ford's Regular and Deluxe TuTone Paint schemes standard with full race track exterior trim to boot.

Our 1978 Ford F-250 4x4 Ranger XLT Lariat represents just that. In fact, it offers a unique departure from the standard Regular and Deluxe TuTone scheme; as it features a partial TuTone delete, leaving the top of the cab in Wimbledon White only. Speaking of paint, this incredible truck features its original paint from the factory. Bright work from front to back in terrific shape.

Of the almost 2,000 special paint ordered F-250 4x4's in 1978, only 2 were produced in combination with this trim. Pretty spectacular numbers when you realize Ford produced almost 70,000 factory 4x4 F-250s that year. This truly is a one-time opportunity to own such a spectacular classic Ford pickup truck. This truck was built on March 22nd, 1978 and sold new only a week later on March 30th, 1978 by Bob Lynch Ford Inc. of Gilroy, California.

Recent work includes: new 4" Rough Country lift kit, rebuilt carburetor, electric fuel pump, new brake lines, newly carpeted floors, new battery, and a set of new headlight surrounds.
